Since its inception in 2004, the Providence Women's Rugby team has proven itself to be an ever-improving competitive club in the greater New England area. Having claimed the NERFU Cup Division II title three years running from 2007-2009, and placing 2nd in the NRU for the 2008 and 2009 seasons, the team continued on to play in the Division II National Tournament for the 2008 and 2009 seasons, placing 5th and 4th, respectively.
Since the 2009 season, women's club restructuring has allowed Providence the opportunity to move up to Division I competition, a challenge the team has taken in stride. Higher level competition has brought about improvements in all levels of play, including enhanced decision making, skill development, and physical preparation.
The fall 2015 season Providence Women’s Rugby moved back to DII, in order to rebuild their competitiveness and skill level. In 2017, Providence played in a hybrid D1/D2 division. Through the hardwork of players and coaches, Providence Women have made it to the Elite 8 the past two years.
PWRFC won first place in the NERFU Division II Championships and we are looking forward to the 2019 season.
